Alaska Ace's

Anchorage's home hockey team offers you a chance to indulge in a real sport for a change. No mamby-pamby play by the rules sport… hmmm… okay, I guess there ARE rules in hockey, but I hardly notice them in the excitement.

The first time I went to a game, the announcer led the crown in the cry, "Hey goalie, your mother called. She said to tell you, "You S**K!" I was aghast at the poor sportsmanship of it. But later realized that it is all in fun and relaxed into the spirit of the game. Hockey, though serious business when the puck is in play, can be a little like "pro-wrestling" in between. Lots of show and bravado. But when the gloves come off and fists start flying, watch out!

The Ace's play in the Sullivan Arena in Mid-town. It is easy to get tickets as the arena is huge and there are many home games. Check out http://www.alaskaaces.com/ for their schedule and plan a game into your visit. Ticket prices run from $9.50 to $21.95, making it an affordable night out as far as events go. Tockets can also be purchased through www.ticketmaster.com.
