Jens' Restaurant (Anchorage, Alaska)
When I am planning an evening out on the town, the first place I consider is Jens' Restaurant. I just love that place. Before you go there, you should know one odd little thing about Anchorage. Some of our best restaurants are socked away in mini-malls… yep, mini-malls! So, right on 36th and Arctic, tucked between Scan Home and some office furniture place is this charming little restaurant and wine bar.
We go to Jens' a few times a year. We are regulars on Valentine's Day, on our Anniversary, and when family comes to visit. I hear that New Years there is a riot and their Beaujolais Nouveaux event is a newsworthy event each year.
Jens Hansen, owner and chef, opened the restaurant in 1988. His Danish background and French culinary education color his menu. Despite his international background, he is a sourdough Alaskan, as he has lived here since 1968. He travels to an exotic spot around the world each year and the cuisine of the country that he visits become featured in his menus as well. So, although we go there fairly often, the menu is always changing. I order something different each time, something I have never had before. I have never been disappointed.
Over the last ten years, I have also noticed that we have the same waiters over and over again. Jens must be a good man to work for with that little turnover in his staff. Visit his website at: http://www.jensrestaurant.com/ and then make your reservation. I always recommend having reservations when eating out in Anchorage. We love to eat out up here!
Say "hello" to Jens when you arrive and Bon Appetite!
