Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum
Alaska is the "flying-est" state in the union. More people, per capita, own their own planes up here than anywhere else in the world. Flight opened up our state in a way that would not have been possible any other way. Therefore, the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum -presents a valuable view of the last 90 years of Alaskan history. Located on the banks of Lake Hood, the busiest float plane base in the world, visitors can watch planes taking off and landing at any time of year while exploring the rich and interesting history of how aviation shaped modern Alaska.
Opened in 1988, the Aviation Museum has gained rare and exceptional samples of original aircraft used throughout Alaska in the early stages of flight. You can try out the flight simulator, watch a film on various flight themes in Alaska, or see some of the planes that have been restored (or are currently being restored). One of the treasures in their collection is a 1941 Stinson L1 NL1ZS, believe to be the only one in existence today. See some of the aircraft that they display in various stages of restoration at : http://www.alaskaairmuseum.org/explore/flightline.htm
Admission costs are $10 per adults, $8 for student/seniors. Group rates are available upon request.
