Snoozin' Moose Inn
I happened upon a great little B&B by accident last month. My first thought was, "this is where my family should stay the next time they come to town." You would have to have a rental car to make it work for you, but the drive "the hillside" is lovely. It also is just far enough from the busier parts of town to make wildlife sightings, including bears, a decent possibility.
The Snoozin' Moose Inn is a downstairs apartment in a private home. It has its own entrance and three bedrooms. They only book one party, up to 6 people, at a time for a fixed rate (currently $275 + 12% lodging tax). That's a super deal in Anchorage if you have more than 2 people. The decor is Alaskan lodge style. The fridge is stocked and the wee nook of a gift store in the corner is charming with hand knitted and felted items.
This warm space is not for the city traveler who wants to step out the front door and walk to the hot spots and restaurants of downtown Anchorage. Rather, it is a relaxing getaway with a great atmosphere. You'll know you're in Alaska when you stay here.
