Chinese Lunar New Year in Singapore

Some of you who are planning a trip to Singapore during the early weeks of February will no doubt have discovered that only expensive air tickets to Singapore are available, starting from the last week of January. You are the lucky few, as more people will not have been able to locate air tickets on most airlines to Singapore.

The reason for this scarcity is the Chinese Lunar New Year, celebrated ...

Forty fun facts about Singapore!

I chanced upon this list of fun facts about Singapore from the Uniquely Singapore website. With these, you can impress your hotel concierge, local hosts or unsuspecting locals!

1. Singapore consists only of one main island and 63 other tiny islands. Most of these islands are uninhabited.

2. Singapore is among the 20 smallest countries in the world, with a total land area of only 682.7 square kilometres. The USA is about ...

Singapore Healthcare

My recent battle with the common cold and cough brings to mind another topic that travellers are concerned about when they visit other countries - the availability and cost of quality healthcare.

Travellers to Singapore will find that the standard of healthcare provided by practitioners here is world-class - our hospitals are well-equipped and well-prepared to handle all kinds of emergencies and accidents. The hospitals also have Outpatient Clinics that operate ...

Christmas Celebrations in Singapore, until December 25

Take a walk along Orchard Road from now until Christmas Day and experience stage performances by local and foreign artistes interpreting the theme of 'Christmas, It's all about Love' in their items.

Additionally, an interactive Christmas village is located near Plaza Singapura, where the birth of Jesus Christ will be re-enacted in a short skit.

The festivities will culminate first with a synchronised mass caroling on Christmas eve, followed by a grand ...

Here comes the rain again...

Apologies for the silence on the blog - I have been down with a severe cold since last Wednesday. As I type this, the remnants of a cough pop up every 15 to 20 minutes, a reminder of the last leg of my battle with the virus that strikes numerous persons during the year end.

Many people in Singapore get the cold near the year end. Unlike temperate countries, we do ...

Changi Airport Terminal 3 Open House, ongoing until Dec 9

Singapore's newest airport terminal official begins operations on January 9 2008, but you can take a tour of it before that.

Terminal 3 will be the largest among the three terminals and it is highly anticipated.

Terminal 3 is open to the public from 10am to 5pm on weekdays, and from 9am to 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays until December 9. The last entrance to its Transit Mall is 4.30pm on weekdays, ...

Complimentary museum entry every Friday

There are several museums in Singapore worth exploring. My personal favourites are the Asian Civilisations Museum II and the Singapore Art Musuem for the engaging and interesting exhibitions that are constantly held here.

Of course, the other museums in Singapore also have interesting exhibitions and collections that warrant a visit. They chart the cultural, social, artistic and historic growth of our island country.

As an added incentive for enticing you to check ...

Behaving badly in Singapore

This is an edited entry that was originally posted on my personal blog. I think the explanation I have given about the Singaporean culture is helpful for visitors to the island country.

~~~~~~~~~~
There is a video posted on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB_GoQ-h9Zg, taken by one of three British youths in their mid-20s, when they were on vacation in Singapore recently.
The original video was posted by one of the lads, but was removed after ...
Singapore: Most desirable Asian country to live in
In the Country Brand Index 2007 survey, Singapore is voted the most desirable Asian country to live in.
It is listed after New Zealand (the country that I ultimately hope to reside in), Australia and Sweden, just ahead of the United States, and other countries including United Kingdom, Switzerland, Costa Rica and Italy.
Rocking live bands/performers!!!
Personally, I am big on live bands that play interactive sets, have a repertoire of popular Indies’ or popular tunes (I'm a child of the 80s!), or just have very entertaining front persons.
The eventual quality of the singing does not really bother me much as long as the singer can carry the tune fairly well; after all, we are not speaking of a jazz singer in a posh jazz lounge!
While ...
