Once every year, you will see men clad only in a cloth covering their groin area, walking the streets at Keong Saik and Serangoon Roads, carrying a metal structure on their shoulders with spikes poking their upper body and face.
This seemingly painful ritual is part of the Hindu thanksgiving held in honour of Lord Subrahmanya/Murugan, the deity who is the destroyer of evil and who represents virtue, youth and power.

We have just celebrated Chinese New Year, welcoming it on January 26. However, the light up in Chinatown lasts until February 15.
Multi-colour lights are strung on the trees lining the streets; buildings have their own illuminated decorations; and you may even spot some traditional round, red Chinese lanterns sprinkled around the area. There are no charges to view these lights, so head down and get some of your own pictures ...
