Visit Singapore's last kampong (village) before it disappears

When Singapore was still a fishing village - some say it was Malay, some say it was Javanese, some say it was part of the Majapahit empire - people lived in kampongs (Malay/Indonesian word for village) consisting of one-story houses made from either wood or bricks and covered with aluminium sheets or leaves from the coconut tree.

Many of these were cleared by the 70s for development of planned high-rise apartment blocks for housing, planned road networks, and designated park clearings.

However, there is still one kampong left in Singapore: Kampong Lorong Buangkok.

There are a number of articles/blogs about Singapore's last kampong:

Yes everyone, the last kampong will soon no longer be 'last' but totally extinct soon. Now if you are a history or cultural buff, it will be greatly worth your time to head there and have a look for yourself.

Getting there: Take the MRT to either Ang Mo Kio or Yio Chu Kang station, then grab a taxi from there.
