Annual Chinese New Year light up 2009
We have just celebrated Chinese New Year, welcoming it on January 26. However, the light up in Chinatown lasts until February 15.
Multi-colour lights are strung on the trees lining the streets; buildings have their own illuminated decorations; and you may even spot some traditional round, red Chinese lanterns sprinkled around the area. There are no charges to view these lights, so head down and get some of your own pictures for memories.
Besides the lights, the streets will be filled with stalls selling snacks and nibbles that are commonly eaten during this season. Cultural performances are also held at certain spots in the area.
Chinatown is not large, and you can complete walking around the area in a few hours. Things start to pick up from 5pm daily, and it gets really busy around 7pm. Do go down early if you do not want to see only heads or bodies in your pictures!
Getting there: Take the MRT to Chinatown station or Outram station. Venture forth on foot.
