Sundays at the Botanic Gardens

Those who read my earlier entry on live music will probably understand when I say that this love extends outside of live music in pubs or bars.

One of my favourite memories of living in Singapore is savouring the contents of a picnic basket by myself or with friends, on the open grassland of the Symphony Lake at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on Sundays, while listening to the life music performed by the guest band.

There were numerous bands and performers. All I can remember are a symphonic band from Russia; a symphonic band from one of the universities in Singapore; a Latin American band churning out salsa, merengue and bachata tunes to dancing couples, and a string band from China.

It is always a good way to spend Sunday afternoons, among groups of friends and families who also enjoy this form of relaxing and socialising. The only cost you ring up is what you put in your picnic basket, and transportation to the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Concerts on Sundays at the Singapore Botanic Gardens begin around 5pm.

Getting there: The easiest option is to take a taxi. You can also take the MRT to Orchard station, walk to the bus stop along Orchard Boulevard and take any bus that heads toward Holland Village (numbers 111, 171). Alight along Napier Road and cross the road to the Botanic Gardens.
