Shopping round the clock
A favourite past time of Singaporeans is shopping. Rightly so when there are a plethora of international and local labels available on our tiny island!
The highest concentration of retail malls and boutique shops in the Orchard Road area. Alight at Orchard MRT and begin your shopping spree at Wheelock Place, which houses Borders, Apple, Birkenstocks and a variety of cafes.
Follow the flow of traffic down Orchard Road and take your time to discover what malls like Tangs, Wisma Atria, Ngee Ann City, Lucky Plaza, Paragon, Heeren, Orchard Cineleisure and Centrepoint have to offer. Do check out Pacific Plaza along Scotts Road where That CD shop offers a wide range of lounge and electronic music CDs.
The younger crowd will favour venues such as Bugis Junction and Bugis Village, conveniently located within walking distance of Bugis MRT. Current, hip street apparel from Thailand, Korea, Japan and beyond form the staples of products here.
Walk slightly further past Bugis Village and you will reach Sim Lim Square, a six-storey electronic products mall. The wide range of items ranging from cell phones to laptops, printers, digital cameras, video recorders, wide-screen televisions, plasma flat screens, and game consoles cost about 20 per-cent less than when bought elsewhere as the retailers have purchased them in bulk. Rest assured that the products are genuine and have a warranty or guarantee.
Night falls and most of the shops close by 10pm. If you still want to spend your cash or have some last minute shopping to complete, head to Mustafa Centre in Little India. This four-storey mall is open round the clock, every day of the year! There are bargains on groceries, electronic good, jewellery, luggage, clothing and daily essentials.
This is just a sampling of what Singapore has to offer in terms of shopping. The best way to discover the shopping experience in Singapore is to come to our island and jump straight in to the past time!
