A bookworm's haven

While the whole metro is captivated by the lights and display of the World Pyro Olympics, the MV Duolos is docked quietly, unbeknownst to the common citizen, on the other side of Roxas Blvd.

What exactly is the MV Duolos?

Not only is it the world’s largest floating bookstore but according to its website, www.mvduolos.org, the Doulos is recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest active ocean-going passenger ship.
How old exactly? Consider this: the Duolos was built in 1914, two years AFTER the Titanic was built.

This 93-year old “bookshop-in-a-ship” houses over 6,000 different titles at very inexpensive prices. There’s no shortage in variety either as the Duolos carries every subject matter like fiction, cook books, history books, management books, and whatever subject matter you can think of.

So if ever you have the urge to drop by your local Powerbooks or Fully Booked, I suggest you take a different route, head over to the to the port area beside the Manila Hotel and pay the Duolos a visit. Who knows, you might find that elusive book you’ve been looking for, at a bargain price no less!

Even if you do come away empty-handed, at least you’re comforted by the fact that you set foot on a legit record-holding 93-year old ship.

*The Duolos will be docked beside the Manila Hotel in Manila from January 4-23 before setting sail for Cebu.

Hi sir! How are the books at Doulos? Can you describe in detail what it is like aboard the ship? I hope you don't mind sharing your personal experience of it.

Cheers! Looking forward to more posts!
