Santo Grão, coffee and much more
Located just across the street from the oh-so-chic Hotel Emiliano, Santo Grão is the perfect spot for a cup of coffee, a sandwich, and a celebrity sighting (just yesterday there was an excited group of girls seated next to me who were there to try and catch a glimpse of Kiefer Sutherland who is in town to film a car commercial and is staying at the Emiliano). While they are most famous for their coffee beans, the food is also excellent with a menu ranging from Vietnamese spring rolls to your classic filet mignon sandwich with a side of crisps. The beverage menu is even more extensive than their food offerings, with coffee taking center stage in everything from a basic latté to a sinful milkshake (they offer soy milk as an option which was a pleasant surprise). Their juices are also quite satisfying, try the apple and ginger juice with cayenne pepper. Last but not least, their desserts are outstanding, including some of the best tiramisu I've had in Brazil as well as other creations such as chocolate pudding that arrives in an edible chocolate shell. At night the café turns into a lively bar, the perfect place for being among São Paulo's hot, young crowd.
