Fashion Week Sao Paulo - The Experience So Far

Fashion week is now starting to wind down, and Tuesday night (19th June) will be the final day. My experience of the week so far has been quite pleasurable, I was lucky enough to have seen several shows, none of which have blown my mind, but they are all fairly quick and enjoyable, the clothes are not too far out and many of them are actually wearable items, rather than wacky ideas strictly for catwalk impact. Some Brazilian celebrities have strutted their stuff, including the likes of Ivete Sangalo, the country’s most popular singer, who was part of Dudu Bertholini’s Neon show, which was one of the better shows I attended, it broke the normal catwalk routine, and was choreographed with special effects and a multitude of models on the decoratively coloured catwalk at once.

The general experience of being at fashion week is amusing, there are a mix of all types of people, all who are trying to dress like models, and trying too look there best, there is much amusement to be had people watching even if you can’t get hold of tickets for the actual shows. If you have invites to the many lounges, there is free beer and champagne to be drunk, and often great snacks. In one lounge freshly made pizza from a restaurant in Sao Paulo was served.

The Fiat after party was good fun on Friday night, and Bloody Social played a live set to an audience of predominantly photographers and journalists, but the band were quite good value, the singer being the new face of Calvin Klein and Sienna Miller’s current boyfriend, so of some interest for more than just musical reasons to the Fashion world I guess. Anyway, social lubricants were free and plentiful, which always helps a party along.

So all in all, I think if you can get hold of tickets then it’s worth checking out and if you go on a nice day then you can always  take a walk in Ibirapuera park, and take in the Oscar Niemeyer architecture and the sculptures.
