CEAGESP, a unique morning in Sao Paulo

There is nothing like a morning visit to CEAGESP, South America's largest wholesale fruit and vegetable market.  Wander through the caverous open-air concrete hangar that houses the market and take in all the different colors and scents.  To make your trip all the more worthwhile, try to go on a Tuesday or Friday when the flower market is open.  If you want the true Brazilian experience you can arrive at 5am with all the other early birds looking to have their pick of the freshest flowers of the day.  Connected to the flower market are stalls that sell baskets and other items that make great gifts, for example decorative balls covered with coffee beans, cinnamon, anise, and other good-smelling spices.

CEAGESP - Av. Dr. Gastão Vidigal, 1946, Vila Leopoldina
Fruit and vegetable market (retail): Wed 3-9pm; Sat 5am-12:30pm; Sun 5am-2pm
Flower market: Tues and Fri, 5am-10:30am

I'm sorry I posted the hours that wholesale buyers can go, I will fix the times so that they reflect the time when they are open for retail business.

Ok, if you're going for retail business, it's open on sundays from 5am to 2pm, but almost services start at 7-8am, and the the goods are finished at 11-12am. The best time to go there is 8am, when the vendors use to allow people to try the fruits... it's really great
