Dining Out - Beef That Deserves its Reputation

  Asado Argentino

Argentina is renowned throughout the world for its exquisite beef. The reputation is well founded; although similar and even higher quality can be found abroad, it is fair to say Argentine beef is among the best in the world.  Some of the finest restaurants in the city are in Costanera Norte and Puerto Madero, such as Hereford and Cabaña Las Lilas respectively. However, you can also enjoy all the quality without the prices in friendly family restaurants across the city. A personal favorite is Rio Alba, on the corner of Oro and Cerviño streets.

A large part of the difference is in the cuts of meat, as well as the method used to cook it. The Argentine asado is characterized by large cuts, and traditionally uses embers from solid firewood instead of charcoal. Among the best choices to try are lomo (tenderloin), bife de chorizo (NY strip steak), c0lita de cuadril, and vacio. Chorizo (sausage), Mollejas (sweetbreads), and Provoleta cheese are great options to quell your hunger while you wait.

A great way to enjoy your meal is to accompany the meat with one of Argentina´s many fine wines. This deserves an entirely new post unto itself! Check back for that later.

I've never seen anything like that.

Looking forward to the wine post.
