Blinding Hotel Bathroom in the Check’ed Republic

Our swanky bathroom at the hotel in Prague

Although Prague’s origins as a town can be traced back to around 870 AD with the foundation of Prague Castle, modern Prague is an oasis of contemporary culture and cool architecture. Swish boutique hotels also flourish in the Czech Republic’s capital city such as the property featured above.

We love avant-garde bathroom designs here at HotelThrone.com, although this image also makes our eyes water!

White-Gloved Hotel Service in Anaheim, California

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

This hotel in Anaheim uses some interesting branded wall sconces to light up their bathrooms. We assume that this white gloved hand is inspiring a sense of five-star service delivery at this hotel property. At the same time, this four-fingered hand looks somehow strangely familiar…

We’ll figure it out soon enough; it’s a small world after all.

“The hotel’s horrible, bum-destroying toilet paper”

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

Jez and Brooke are typical hotel guests. Although they expect to get decent value for the price they pay, they don’t necessarily expect the very best quality in everything. They do, however, expect a reasonable effort to be made in minding the details, especially in the bathroom arena. And they’re not afraid to speak their minds if things aren’t right, either.

…at the Copthorne Tara Kensington in London I sent a message to the hotel manager and got replacement TP and a note, but really this is the most stunningly appalling TP for any respectable hotel to offer and they should just fricking upgrade it, the cheap bastards.

Androgynous-ish Hotel Bathroom Signage People

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

We love bathroom signage here at HotelThrone.com, and we’re delighted to feature hotels who push the envelope when choosing “artsy” gender signage to direct their guests to the appropriate facility.

Thanks to Kir and Jim for sending in this terrific example of gender confused-ish bathroom signage at the Aria Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic. We would have had no problem finding the ladies’ washroom, but we’re not too sure who exactly is welcome on the right!

I saw the entry on “hotel bathroom signage people,” and immediately thought of my experience a couple of years ago. After imbibing in a few glasses of fine Czech wine at the gorgeous Aria Hotel’s rooftop restaurant in Prague, I headed down to the washroom to find this sign. I don’t remember now whether there was more than one door, or if this sign was just on one door, but I stood there for awhile, stumped as to which door I should enter/whether I should open the door/whether I should keep searching for a washroom. I blame it on the wine! I did enter, and then sent my husband down with the camera to see the sign for himself.

Eau de Toilet in Nagaoka, Japan

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

I check into my hotel, fill my tiny room with all my stuff, and the first thing I notice is the fantastic Engrish everywhere. What this sign is trying to say is “If using the toilet’s built-in Bidet function, please switch it off before you stand up.” I’ll allow you to imagine the scene of a toilet spraying water in a graceful arc up out of the bowl and all over the room.

Peek a Boo Bathroom at the Cliff Lodge

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

Boutique hotels around the world are embracing transparent partitions between the bedroom and the bath. Perhaps this design innovation is meant to inspire a feeling of intimacy, or maybe to offset an uber-small sized guestroom with the illusion of space.

Either way, “Catinlap”, featured below gives us a live demonstration at the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird Mountain in Utah. Thanks to Catinlap for helping us decide for ourselves whether this new bathroom styling is as cool as we thought.

The bathrooms in the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird have a European–strike that–Yourapeein’ feature: a window that looks directly into the room. I guess you can shower and watch the cars pull up to the resort. Here Catinlap demonstrates by fake pissing what the horror would be like to be in the room with someone who doesn’t shut the curtains.

Bathroom Surprise at the Sukhothai Hotel in Bangkok

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Narly is a New Zealander who currently calls Hong Kong home. He is a fan of our little hotel blog network here at HotelsByCity, and when he was recently vacationing in Thailand with his fiance - he decided to have some fun with his camera.

Check out this bathroom image “paparazzi-style” catching him on the throne at the upscale Sukhothai Hotel in Bangkok.

Extravagant Soap at the Klaus K Hotel, Finland

Saturday, December 9th, 2006

everyday a new bar of soap appears in our hotel bathroom. what happens to all the used bars of soap?

The Klaus K Hotel in Finland is a luxury retreat for the discerning guest. As in many upscale hotels bathroom amenities are replaced on a daily basis to ensure that guests are getting a fresh “experience” every time they wash their hands. We love that kind of attention to detail here at HotelThrone.com.

Daily bathroom amenity replacement does, however, beg the above question. What does happen to all that used soap taken from luxury bathrooms around the world?

We can’t speak for the industry as a whole, but we can speak to one hotel market in Vancouver, Canada. In the Vancouver area used hotel soaps and shampoos often make their way to a company that makes soap flakes and laundry detergents under the Buffalo Manufacturing brand. Buffalo Soap has relationships with many hotels in the area to pick up their used products - keeping their costs down and keeping the soap out of the garbage dumps and landfills.

Men’s Nightmare at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel & Casino

This men’s room mockery at the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino is a variation on a hilarious theme that we have featured before. It never gets tired for us here at HotelThrone.com!

Housekeeping Professionals at L.A.’s Hotel Alexandria

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

What a great image. We found this rendition of hotel room attendants servicing a guestroom at the Alexandria Hotel in Los Angeles.

Much respect to hotel housekeepers around the world! You’ve got a tough, sometimes thankless job and you tirelessly take care of the guest every single day.

Thank you!

Hotel Bathrooms for the Time-Pissed, er, Pressed

We are constantly amazed at hotel design innovations being developed around the world. This Bulgarian throne takes the “bidet” to a whole…’nother…level.

Thanks Horst, for this terrific image.

Outdoor Throne with a Killer View of Victoria Falls

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

We normally focus specifically on hotels in our never-ending search for the best, worst, and most outrageous thrones around the world. HotelThrone.com is pleased to be the first blog ever to proudly go where many of our viewers have never “gone” before.

Today, however, we are excited to feature two incredible images sent to us from Eugene, showcasing a throne of a different sort. Eugene, who is from Johannesburg, took his better-half to Zambia for a holiday and they both loved it.

This is the throne on Livingstone Island, Zambia. Making use of the throne you overlook Zambia, The Victoria Falls, and Zimbabwe all in a single glance.

Imagine taking care of your personal “business” while gazing at one of the most breathtaking sites on the planet. No need to bring reading material to this outdoor throne on Livingstone Island in Zambia - you’ll get all the visual entertainment you could ever imagine.

The Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most amazing sights in the world. Twice as tall as Niagara Falls, and several times longer, Victoria Falls affords “sitters” a once-in-a-lifetime sightseeing experience.

We love these images - and we also love the fact that even though this bathroom lacks a little in the “exquisite” department, you can still sanitize your hands with pump soap attached to the wicker walls. No wonder UNESCO supports this awesome site!

Public Bathrooms at Four Seasons Istanbul

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Achieving AAA’s coveted Five-Diamond hotel designation is no easy task. Apart from having impeccable service delivered consistently every time hotels that achieve this level of quality have to maintain a pristine facility with all the bells and whistles.

Canadian-made Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, to their credit, have achieved Five Diamond status for a full 21 of their hotel properties around the World. Enormous effort had to have been made in order for that to happen, so congrats to Four Seasons.

Ladies, enjoy this image of a gentleman guest of the Four Seasons Hotel in Istanbul. Please note not only the friendly looking washroom patron, but also the well cared-for, immaculate environment in this male domain. Contrary to what you might believe, we are also fully capable of enjoying some of the finer accoutrements of luxury travel, such as cute little towels rolled up, and bathroom soaps pumped out of dainty little dispensors.

Gold Hotel Fixtures in Kohler, Wisconsin

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Hotels don’t often use high-end bathroom fixtures with brand names like Kohler. For one thing, residential-style fixtures aren’t necessarily made to take the amount of use that commercial hotel fixtures receive on a daily basis.

It isn’t that guests use the faucets differently from at home, but rather that housekeeping also uses them daily when servicing the guestroom.

The other factor is, of course, price. Brands like Kohler aren’t known to be the cheapest in the catalogue.

When you stay in a hotel in Kohler, Wisconsin however - you can be sure that you’ll be using top shelf bathroom fixtures. After all, head offices for the Kohler company really are in Kohler, Wisconsin.

Check out this golden hotel faucet set from the luxury American Club Hotel, along with a very nice porcelain floral fixture at Kohler’s Design Center.

We spent Thanksgiving at this resort in Kohler, Wisconsin…yes Kohler. Each room has really NICE fixtures.

The Kohler Design Center is the place to go to see the most spectacular bathrooms you’ve ever seen. It’s actually a tourist attraction in Kohler.

Happy Couple at the Lowes Hotel in Philadelphia

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

No matter how contemporary upscale hotel designs become, we can always count on a few standards to be in place - like traditional bathroom signage.

We love images of hotel bathroom signage “people” here at HotelThrone.com. Two people, him and her, perfectly complementary against a deep red velour backdrop. Never touching, but always together. It almost brings a tear to our eyes. But not quite.

Ringless Honeymoon in Tahiti

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

It only took four days for me to forget my ring for the first time. Left it on the bathroom counter while we went out to explore the hotel.

Housekeeping room attendants are used to finding items like these on hotel bathroom vanities in hotels around the world.

A word to the wise…should you ever forget your valuables in your hotel guestroom, make sure to pick up a phone and call houskeeping right away. Remember, hotels will never call you at home to tell you they have found something valuable that you might have left behind. It’s not that hotels are dishonest, it’s simply a legal matter.

Hotels do not need any more lawsuits from angry guests suing because the hotel called their “home number” to tell someone their “partner” left some underwear in their Toronto Hotel, when the partner was supposed to be in Spusm on business.

Robe Wraps at a Luxury Swiss Hotel

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

While browsing Yahoo! Answers we came across this question:

Why are the Swiss so uptight and unpleasant?

We have Swiss fans here at BedJump.com, and they have certainly never been unpleasant. As for uptight? Perhaps the image above of a luxury hotel bathroom in Luzern, Switzerland can help us answer that question.
