All the hardware pictured in this blog is delightful. But where’s the “software,” by which I mean reading material for the throne room. A bathroom without words is like a restaurant without food.

Theorists of bathroom reading write that a key feature of any throne room text is brevity. For best results, material should be readable in a single sitting (so to speak).

Given that the average person reads at a rate of about 300 words per minute (depending on the difficulty of the topic), a suitable text should be no more than 500 words. (For those suffering from constipation might, the limit can be upped to 750 words.)

The average chapter in WAR AND PEACE doesn’t work given this length restriction. But the typical entry in WORDS OF A FEATHER does. True, WORDS OF A FEATHER isn’t–yet–viewed with the reverence shown Tolstoy’s masterpiece. On the other hand, Tolstoy’s novel doesn’t provide the kind of information you get in WORDS OF A FEATHER, for example, that bondage & husband are related. Ditto flatulence & inflation, president & sedintary, karaoke & karate, and rectitude & rectum,

Plus, the website for Tolstoy’s book doesn’t have an interactive game, but you’ll find a hilarious quiz at http://www.wordsofafeather.NET.

Conclusion; Next time you head for the throne, have a copy of WORDS OF A FEATHER at the ready. Whatever happens in there, you’re likely to come out smiling.
