Bed & Beer at the Beat Hotel
The Beat Hotel is the inspiration of Steven Lowe, former associate of W.S. Burroughs. Lowe’s connection to “the Beats” gives him a unique perspective and access to his personal collection of Beat books, artifacts and art. In this hotel Lowe has created a learning center as well as a vacation retreat for visitors.
All eight guest rooms of the restored 1957 motel are decorated with paintings and photographs by Burroughs himself. Vintage manual typewriters sit on simple desks. According to Travel & Leisure (April 2003), “Unlike the original beatniks, however, you don’t have to suffer for your art. Instead of urban grit, you have sweeping views of the Coachella Valley, a surreal mix of palm trees, desert sand, wind farms, and mountains.”
