Boys will be Boys on a Heavenly Rollaway

Ah yes, the glorious rollaway bed. The bedding of last choice for hotel guests around the world. With hotel brands putting such a focus on building a better bed, the gap between “plush sleep system” and “you get the cot” has grown even wider.

Brands like Starwood’s Westin Hotels & Resorts have attempted to improve the cot-bed experience by developing the Heavenly Rollaway, but no matter how much better it is than the old cot, the new cot is still, well, a cot. And it’s still the youngest, newest, loudest or least confrontational member of the hotel travel party that gets the pleasure of strapping in.

Round Bed in Gangneung, Korea

The really cheap places have these round beds. Perhaps I am staying in a love hotel, maybe I do not know how to tell.

“A large portion of the hotel industry in Korea is comprised of so-called “love hotels,” a phrase that conjures the deservingly seedy image of neon refuges for adulterers, midnight lovers and anyone else escaping the scrutiny of friends or relatives.

Love hotels are recognizable by their often gaudy, castle-like exteriors and distinctive features to disguise their clientele, such as special barriers to shield the license plates in the parking lot. But love hotel owners are transforming the image of their establishments, upgrading them from cheap lust shacks to respectable getaways for married couples and lovers.”

Money Shot at the Hotel Eddystone

Here is an interesting image of Detroit musician Liz Larin - from the top of the now vacant Hotel Eddystone:

Liz Larin, Detroit’s Goddess of Rock, photographed on top of the Hotel Eddystone, during Cave Canem’s shoot. It was an AMAZING shoot, and this was the last frame of the night. Cave Canem deserves all the praise for his amazing artistic concept and allowing me to be in on the fun. Hauling this bed up 13 flights of stairs wasn’t too much fun, but luckily, we were able to hire some help.

Inside a Tokyo Capsule Hotel

Flexible, at times strange, commendably modular and self-contained, they are none-the-less, after two weeks, a bit depressing.

York House Hotel Bed, Portugal

We are suckers for arsty/sexy hotel bed images here at HotelBedHQ.com. This interesting image was taken in room 401 at the York House Hotel in Lisboa, Portugal.

..Travelers say they want charm and atmosphere in a hotel. In Europe it is very easy to find and the York House is certainly full of these and more. One should not choose to stay in a 17th Century Convent and expect ALL of the amenities one would find in a superior grade major US city Hotel. It will never happen…this ain’t no Sheraton!!![more]

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Bed

While many hotel brands are perfecting the “white” look for their guest room sleep systems (aka beds), upscale Hong Kong based Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has clearly embraced bold contrasts in their colour pallet of choice.

San Francisco’s swish Mandarin Oriental property showcases the dramatic bed look above, complete with a pyramid centre piece reminiscent of Egyptian sensibilities. We suspect that the East-meets-West design theme flows from the very top of the organization.

The hotel group’s Chief Executive, Edouard Ettedgui, is widely known in the hotel trade to epitomize the international leader. Schooled in Paris, he has managed businesses in Morocco, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Peru, London and Hong Kong. Ettedgui’s global experiences are helping Mandarin Oriental grow faster than any other hotel brand.

Color it Bangkok - Reflections Hotel

The room is filled with sexy figurative paintings. Even the shower has a painting of a bra, hanging from the wall. This reminds me so much of Kiko Escora - a Filipino artist.

Bed with a view at the W

If you happen to get a lame view from your guestroom window at the W Hotel in Montreal, worry not - you can always turn around and watch your partner take care of business instead. Nice.

“…The hotel is really nice. Bed is comfortable and furnishings unique. It’s very fun environment. The concierges were very helpful and the Whatever/Whenever concept is a real success: loved being able to order a chocolate cake at 2AM. The staff in general are very qualified, smiling, cordial…[more]“

Capsule Hotel in Ikebukuro, Tokyo

Capsule Hotel, originally uploaded by charlietyack.

“…Thin white fiberglass. Narrow mattress on the floor. Electronics console in the capsule wall, TV above your knees. The capsules themselves are about the minimum amount of space required for human dwelling. You can sit up and read, lay there and watch TV. At the end, you close a thin curtain between you and the ten to seventy other men sleeping in the same area as you. Wearing earplugs helps cut the noise. Sometimes there’s a hole providing some air circulation…[article]“
