Star Wars Hotel Bed Sheets in Guatemala

Ok so this is funny…because Star Wars was filmed at Tikal and I had Anakin Skywalker sheets on my hotel bed! Yes!

In the movie Star Wars: A New Hope, the “Massassi” temples were actually the ancient pyramids found in Tikal, Guatemala. A skeleton crew of ILM cameramen travelled to Guatemala to film the handful of scenes required.

And when you check into a nearby hotel, you might be sliding between the sheets alongside a Star Wars character or perhaps an alien being.

Hampton Inn Bed, Lafayette LA

One…three…five pillows on red floral, not including the ones we can’t see on the port side of this king-sized bed at the Hampton Inn in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Hampton Inn’s “Cloud Nine” sleep system is the kind of bed action we love at HotelBedHQ.com.

“Revamping the bed experience is something we have been researching and testing along with our other Make It Hampton components,” said Phil Cordell, senior vice-president, Hampton Brand Management.

“We tested many different versions of the bed, and Cloud Nine represents the best of the best of what guests said they love. Cloud Nine takes the sleep experience to a new level with a comfy, high-quality, raised mattress and new, dramatically more comfortable products and fabrics.”

Round Bed in Gangneung, Korea

The really cheap places have these round beds. Perhaps I am staying in a love hotel, maybe I do not know how to tell.

“A large portion of the hotel industry in Korea is comprised of so-called “love hotels,” a phrase that conjures the deservingly seedy image of neon refuges for adulterers, midnight lovers and anyone else escaping the scrutiny of friends or relatives.

Love hotels are recognizable by their often gaudy, castle-like exteriors and distinctive features to disguise their clientele, such as special barriers to shield the license plates in the parking lot. But love hotel owners are transforming the image of their establishments, upgrading them from cheap lust shacks to respectable getaways for married couples and lovers.”

Jing Gwai in bed at the Swana Bangkok Hotel

Tired Jing “Teddy” Gwai needs some rest …at the Swana Bangkok Hotel, Thailand.

This is quite a new hotel and it’s ideal for young people who want to stay close to the action in Khao San but can afford to spend a bit more… and far enough away not to get any unwanted disturbances. The hotel is relatively cheap (we paid £17 a night internet rates in April), its rooms are clean and comfortable and staff friendly speaking good english. The staff are very helpful and even helped flag down a taxi ensuring we got a meter rate…[more]

Out with the Ancient…In with the Heavenly in Shanghai

The People’s Republic of China is experiencing an incredible renaissance in their hotel industry. With the Summer Olympics coming up next year in Beijing, and Shanghai fast approaching Hong Kong as China’s financial center, hotels are being built and renovated around the clock.

The frenetic pace of hotel renovation is also great news for guests, who are increasingly enjoying the very best furniture, bedding and guestroom technology on the market.

The image of hotel mattresses awaiting removal on a quiet Shanghai street nicely reflects the hotel industry’s exponential growth.

Hotel-Speak for Turn Baby Turn

This mattress is only valid for three months of the year.

The hotel trade is riddled with “insider” vocabulary that sounds very foreign to hotel guests.

Sometimes hotel terms can be downright misleading — words like VD (vacant-dirty guestroom), or PMS (property management system) can easily be misunderstood to those outside of the industry.

Even little tricks that hoteliers use to help employees perform their jobs can confuse guests, such as the three-month label shown in the image above, meant to let housekeeping know when to “flip or turn” the mattress to distribute weight evenly - much like rotating tires on your car.

Sweet Dreams at the Hotel @ MIT?

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA is an educational institute for serious “thinkers”. The school is devoted to the advancement of knowledge in areas that contribute to an environment of science and technology.

MIT also has a hotel on campus that connects the school to the surrounding biotech research business community. As you might expect, guests of the Hotel at MIT are often of the “genius” variety - which is clearly apparent in the image of the bedspread above, found on a standard guestroom bed:

This was on the bed in the hotel room at Hotel at MIT. I loved being surrounded by such nerdiness.

Sweet dreams for some, nightmares for many!

Our Luvvv Bed in Bangkok!

What a surprise!!! The room was massively huge I must add. It’s the Twin Towers Hotel, which is located near Hua Lampong Train station.

Very nice set-up. The “Twin Tower” moniker does not seem to to be referring to the pillows, that’s for sure!

Happy Honeymoon Bed, Thailand

Resort housekeeping staff around the world really do make an incredible effort to ensure that your vacation memories will last a lifetime.

Imagine coming home to your guestroom at the Pimalai Resort & Spa in Krabi, Thailand and finding this surprise set-up!

Our stay at the Pimalai was a truly fantastic experience. We stayed in a normal room, but the size and standard was above all our expectations. The welcome greeting, the friendly staff, the superb library, the free Internet connection, and the infinity pool. Everything we experienced at the Pimalai except for the food was very very good…[more]

White look at New York’s Hotel QT

Styled as “New York’s newest affordable crash pad”, the Hotel QT is a contemporary retreat with some interesting twists, including a desire for anonymity with a strict “no pictures allowed” policy.

The hotel’s swimming pool, lobby and lounge are intermixed into a den of fulfillment all on the main level. And in the bedrooms…a white sleep haven on platforms. Bunk beds are even making a comeback at the QT.

Oops, we got a picture…keep it on the “QT”.
