Radish lanterns



every autumn, swiss children carve out radishes into little lanterns and they go out into their villages in the evening, singing and parading their "lanterns"

On a larger scale, every year in Richterswil there is a special lantern festival called

kunsthaus



The kunsthaus is a great museum in the heart of zurich. I like the modern art they have in the back, and of course a great collection of Swiss artists, including my favorite - Ferdinand Hodler.

Also as a tip, it is free on Wednesdays.

Roasted chestnuts



Roasted chestnuts or marroni as they are called here, signal in the start of Autumn. Swiss people love chestnuts in all forms. Whether it is cooked to be eaten with game, or made into a paste to be eaten on cakes or in the famous marron glace .

you can rent bikes to go around zurich city. it is free and the season ends this month.

Aviary



The Mythenquai is just round the corner from Burkliplatz (the main pier where tourists can take the ferries around lake of Zurich) It is popular in summer for the small beach and the lawn where many people go to sunbathe, But what to do in Autumn?

skiing
