Den Haag

hague-2.jpg

Today Theran and I took a day trip to Den Haag (The Hague). It only took about an hour to get there by train, which is the perfect place to read the paper as Theran demonstrates.

When we were there we took in a couple of museums including Mauritshuis which holds Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring and a few Rembrandts. We ...

Theran in Amsterdam

inside-schreirestoren.jpg
One of Scott's high-school friends, Theran, is in town and we explored places in the city today while Scott was at work. Theran did his research before he came and had a list of places he wanted to see- one of them being Schreierstoren.

Schreierstoren was part of the medieval wall in Amsterdam that dates back into the late 1400's. Located close to central station ...

Cheese Store Part I

Cheese Store Journey

As we were walking through Dam Square on the way to our favorite cheese store, we had the idea to run into Nieuwe Kerk to see what the inside is like. Nieuwe Kerk is a beautiful church sitting right on the square that is open for the public to look inside (it only costs money if you want to walk around ...

On Saturday morning we awoke with the sun shining. This is a rare occurrence because of the usual rainy days and not one we are willing to take for granted. Scott and I made a jug of spicy bloody mary's and headed outside only stopping when we got to the peddle boats (or canal bikes as ...

Wine Wall

On Friday night, Scott and I decided to take a walk and get a cup of coffee before coming back home and spending the night indoors. A local coffee shop that we wanted to try out in the Jordaan was closed so we decided to find another. We walked along the Prinsengracht staring in windows for a place that was new and ...

The The first thing I did when I moved here was find a good sushi restaurant. I'm from NYC and sushi there is fantastic so I knew I'd have some detective work to do to find a really good place...

Plus! I like cozy and nice places, I don't care how good your food is but if the actual restaurant is fugly ...

Ethiopische Restaurant Lalibela

Ethiopian food is one of those kinds of food that I’ve heard about, I had once many years ago, but I don’t really have any opinion about it. So when I showed up at drinks last night for a friend’s birthday and she announced that we were eating Ethiopian food, I was delighted. I enjoy trying new kinds of food and she and her fiancé swore that this ...

On a Wok

In Amsterdam, you can often see people walking down the street eating out of what looks like a to-go Chinese container with chopsticks. It seems rather odd that people are eating their leftovers on the way home; until you actually taste the food. The containers are coming from different wok restaurants, but all carry basically the same name: Wok to Walk, Wok to Home, Wok to Work, Wok to Go ...
