Chicken Fingers
Last week Scott and I booked a city canal cruise for ex-pats. We decided it would be a great way to meet people in the area who were also new. The meeting place was The Hard Rock Café. We were a little put off by the spot since it seems to be a tourist hotspot and not one that we would go to without a reason.
When we arrived we were escorted to the lower level where we were instructed to have a drink while we waited for everyone to arrive. With chardonnay in hand was when I first noticed it; a completely unexpected feeling: I was comfortable; this place actually felt homey. The voices from the table behind us were in English. The hostess didn't have an accent. There was popular American music coming out over the speakers. Standard appetizers like quesadillas and chicken fingers were being set down for the American beer drinkers. It was nice.
Now I can't discourage the homesick tourists from going to The Hard Rock Café. When I think about the inviting bar with the Cheers theme song playing in the background it actually makes me smile.
Ok, maybe that song only played there in my mind, but you get the picture.
