twentynine

TwentyNine

Weather permitting, Scott and I usually take a daily walk. Yesterday was no exception. We started by walking through the Spui and down towards dam square, stopping at places we found interesting and finding ideas for places we would like to try in the future.

We stopped at a little bar near the red light district called Twentynine. The bars of this area usually consist of ...

Peddling Petals

Flower Market

I always make sure we have fresh cut flowers on the dining room table in our apartment. It seems like I'm not alone with this idea because most of the places I walk by in Amsterdam are also displaying colorful flowers in the windows. It may be because the Netherlands are known for their tulips or perhaps because we live in the city ...

Saloon Burger

 Big Burger

True to our word we headed back to the Saloon to try their burgers. Paired with a couple of bloody mary's and our friend, John, it turned out to be a pleasant Saturday afternoon. They were as good as they looked.

Seeing Green

kroon.jpg

After dinner at one of our favorite Indian restaurants, Ghandi, Scott and I went for a walk down Damrak. We love turning down tiny alleys off of the main street to explore what gems may be hidden. On this night, we saw a place called De Kroon. I thought I remembered reading about it so I wanted to stop (as it turns out, ...

Cricket in Amsterdam

One of the things I love most about Amsterdam is how diverse it is!  You can find just about anything here.  Well, last weekend I was invited to a CRICKET match at Amsterdam's very own cricket club!!!  They have a great set up over in the Amsterdamse Bos.  As you can see below its very green... AND delicious Indian food was catered that day! YUM!

Ring the Bell

Saloon

After sushi and a couple of bottles of sake on Friday night, Scott and I decided we wanted to make another stop before calling it a night. We started walking down the Lijnbaangracht trying to think of a place that would meet our needs: a chill place with beer. We kept going until in the distance we made out the word "Saloon" on the ...

Chicken Fingers

Last week Scott and I booked a city canal cruise for ex-pats. We decided it would be a great way to meet people in the area who were also new. The meeting place was The Hard Rock Café. We were a little put off by the spot since it seems to be a tourist hotspot and not one that we would go to without a reason.

When we arrived we were ...

Making Something of the Day

World Press Photo Exhibition

Ahhh, Saturdays. Waking up in a slightly dazed state due to the night before and trying to make something of the day. Scott and I headed out on the streets by foot to explore the city. We started by moving down the Kloveniersburgwal to Nieumarkt where the market was in full swing. We slowly moved down the aisles picking ...

Where beautiful people go in Amsterdam...

Oasis

 Bicycle

Let's face it. Amsterdam can be loud. The trams whiz by within feet of foot traffic, the canals are home to honking motor boats, and at any time a tour-guide is screaming while describing the city so everyone in the group can hear. Amsterdam is full of lights, noise, and most importantly, energy. Even the short-time visitor may need an oasis to ...
