Budapest: May 24, 2008

View from the great rockYes, it took us almost a year to go back but it was totally worth it.

We visited the zoo again and i must say it's absolutely amazing to go up the Great Rock and watch the city. It was really crowded mostly because it was the week before Children Day and because it is tourist season. However, ...

I miss Budapest!

The Holidays are fast approaching and I miss Budapest. I miss her charm and her beauty, i miss her  bridges and her castles, i miss the cafes and the Danube...

Why not plan to celebrate Christmas in Budapest? The main celebration takes place on Christmas Eve and families go to the midnight mass. The traditional Christmas food includes fish soup, meat filled cabbage rolls, rolls stuffed with walnuts and poppy seeds. ...

Budapest: Castle Hill (Castle District)

Once suburbs, now the entire area within the ramparts is protected as an ancient monument. The area is filled of important landmarks such as The Fishermen Bastion, a lot of museums , squares and statues, The Royal Palace, Buda Castle Labyrinth or Vienna Gate.

Budapest: Gellert Hill - The Citadela

We first went up the Gellert Hill on the evening we got to Budapest. Being on the highest points in the capital, right on the bank of the Danube, Gellert Hill offers one of the best views of the city. During the evenings, it's incredible to view the lights of the city.

But we had to check out the Fortress on top of Gellert Hill so we went on a lovely ...

We went to visit the Transport Museum because the guys - my husband, my friend's fiance and our friend who has the apartment in Budapest - wanted to. To be honest, I'm very glad we decided to go because I got hooked by the Museum. The entrance was 500 HUF (about $3) for an adult and we also visited the Airplanes Museum -in another building- based on the same ticket. ...

Budapest: Vajdahunyad Castle

On our way back from Budapest Zoo we went to visit Vajdahunyad Castle. It was already late in the afternoon and , to our surprise, the Castle held an "event night" so the tickets had very high prices (5000 HUF/adult or about $28). During "normal" days, the tickets are not that costly ("just" 3500 HUF/adult or about $20). We quickly learned that Vajdahunyad Castle houses a restaurant, the Agricultural Museum ...

Hero's Square and Budapest Zoo: A day to Remember

We arrived in Budapest on a Sunday evening. After unpacking and buying a map of the city and the Travel Card we started planning the next Days. The first place we wanted to visit was Budapest Zoo. Little did we know we were going to spend our entire day there. Early morning on Monday, Aug 6, 2007 we left our apartment -we stayed at a friend's place- and head to ...

When the heat is on

Though I'm writing from within a fresh air-conditioned building, my legs are beginning to wiggle a bit reminding me that I must get outside to enjoy the summer heat that's already fallen upon Budapest. There's really only one thing to do on a day like today and that's head to Margaret Island.

Situated between Buda and Pest in the Danube River, the island is an absolute treat for those attempting to escape ...
