From the Roofs at Blaha

As summer approaches, the sporadic spring rainstorms continue to emerge out of nowhere. The outdoor beer gardens may be open on Margaret Island, but the muddy grass still hinders some of us from heading out there these nights. For now, one bar is pulling foreigners and locals alike with its astounding attraction- it's on a rooftop! This may be a common feature of nightlife establishments in other European capitals, but it's a relatively new contribution to Budapest.

But I'm not giving the bar justice by pretending it relates to others cities. The pleasure of this bar is that it is uniquely Hungarian AND on a supermarket's rooftop. Located on the crucial transport hub Blaha Lujza above Kaiser's, the high altitude socializing is a treat for all.

While a huge sign of a red teapot marks the bar's location, it's getting up to it that is the challenge (not to mention getting down after a good night with friends or making friends). Two options are available: a 40 second elevator ride with a golden cooler full of drinks, or a treacherous journey up stairs lined with bicycles. Interaction with the locals is bound to occur in either situation.
