For the foodie in you, in Athens, on the planet.
As I was strolling through my own little “downtown” in Nea Smyrni, I discovered a new free magazine which calls itself “I’m foodie; i COOK GREEK”. The pale blue stand caught my eye immediately as I was passing the home/kitchen shop “Parousiasi” (which is where I assume you can find it in any city). I am particularly glad to see such a fine specimen of foodie indulgence as I myself enjoy being treated not as a complete idiot just because I am not a connoisseur or gourmet of all things food. Foodie, as the first page describes, amongst other things is one who will eat pizza but knows which one tastes the best. This person appreciates a great plate of food because it’s fresh, thought through, compliments the palette, but doesn’t necessarily involve ingredients only found in France and doesn’t have to cost this months pay check for a morsel of some poor fish’s little babies.
The magazine includes great recipes, which they proclaim HAVE been cooked (in other words, tried and true) and are by the fabulous chefs of “Varoulko”. It’s a highly yummy, very recommended restaurant by the Oscar of foods, a Michelin star. It has a price range of 40-70 euros a person and is located on Pireus 80, Gazi (Telephone 210.522.8400). For more in depth readers, there are also articles on health issues, where to buy the best ingredients, what to drink, foods by town, music to cook by, and more.
To find out more about yourself (you know who you are), check out this first issue of “I’m foodie; i COOK GREEK” at your nearest Parousiasi or at www.icookgreek.com (coming soon). You won’t be disappointed.
