Athens Shopping Haven; The Mall
As sale season is coming to an end on Saturday, now is the time to hop on the metro or walk your pretty little legs over to the nearest shopping area. You’ll find the best prices of the season, but you may also be disappointed to find the least amount of sizes available. You can’t have your cake, eat it too, and not gain weight. I’m still working on that one and will let you know how it goes.
So, last night I checked out “The Mall”. For my over-seas friends, it’s called “The Mall” because it is THE only mall in Athens. When someone refers to it in Greek, it’s actually The “The Mall”. The great thing is, it’s easy to get to by train if you take the green line through Omonia or Attiki metro stations and get off at Nerantziotissa. If you’re coming from the other direction, there is always the Proastiako train. And if you just can’t part with your car, there is ample parking in the lot. However, be aware of the prices! Yes, it is 0.50 cents the first hour but goes up from there considerably. Oh, and be sure to make note of the number and color of your parking spot or you’ll be walking around for hours with all those bags in your hands cursing yourself! And they don’t have little guys with golf carts who will help track down your car for you. Trust me, I’ve checked.
The great thing about The Mall is that besides having an indoor haven and a plethora of choices for shopping, (there are anything from technology stores, to shoe stores, clothing stores, eyewear stores, pharmacies, home stores, and jewelry stores) you can head upstairs for a coffee or chewables with a gorgeous view of the Olympic Stadium. Since this place is encased in a glass ceiling, you don’t feel claustrophobic and the ceiling magically changes to protect all sippers & nibblers from the rays of the sun. And may I add that there is a lovely balcony for you to bask in the loveliness of the out doors. There is Flocafe, Starbucks, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Goody’s, Ruby Tuesday, and even Hooters. There is Chinese food, Greek food, pizza, wraps, sandwiches, and even a play area for kids. And as if you didn’t have enough to do there, you can catch a movie on the upper level, or go grocery shopping at the Champion Marinopoulos downstairs. For you mom’s out there who need the space to just be able to fit a stroller, this is heaven. Plus, it’s a smoke free environment for the most part.
