Where the masses MEAT

It's a warm sunny day out and like snails all of Athens swarmed the streets.  I was no exception, of course and joined the masses.  There is just something alluring about Monastiraki that brings not just Greeks but energized tourists to it's saturated streets.  Right outside the metro & train station you will find a plethora of jewelry carts with vendors proudly displaying their wares, produce sellers with large juicy fruit (beware of extremely well polished fruit.   It may still taste yummy, but it's difinately not delicately grown on that guys little farm) & a number of entrepreneurial foreigners with a wide variety of cheezy or wanna be chic goods.  The scariest of all? Those little mummie bunnies with beedy red eyes that come at you like "Night of the living dead".  You can also find any knock-off handbag from Chanel to Gucci.  Beware of weekend nights because this area packs in the masses like sardines.  It's fun to check out, but not for the speedy or faint of crowds.

My people who have migrated to various parts of the world ALWAYS visit a dear friend, "Thanasis".  According to George, Mody, and John, Thanasi makes the hands-down best Mediteranean kebabs in Athens.  If they are reading this right now, saliva is dripping and they are calling me to doggy-bag a samich for them and send it on over (by the way, doggy-bags are a no-no in Greece.  Very un-cool.  We only do freshy, says Jimmy).  So, anyway just a little warning that George, Mody, and John are not the only ones that know our dear friend Thanasis, so you may have to wait for a scrumptious, juicy, pile of herby meat. But don't worry, you won't be dissapointed.  If all else fails, take it to go.
