Hey there. You are cold and you want to have a nice coffee close to the heart of Munich? Well, then I can definitely recommend one place. Cafe Vits. Named by the owner Alexander Vits you will be served finest coffe already mentioned in the Gault Millau. Well, they don't have any stars yet, but they will soon, if everything goes well (does any coffee shop has a Gault Millau star!??). However this is a place close to Viktualienmarkt and Isartor / Deutsches Museum. No tourists and friendly athmosphere. Coffee from all over the world, self made cakes and some smaller dishes (mainly thai & soups). For business customers they offer special events. You can book the whole place for your company / friends! What makes them so special is that they have there own roasting facilities. So no average coffee, but just the best an freshly roasted! You will love it.

Free Concert Festival: Backstage Munich 26/08 - 09/09

Dear folks and friends.

13 years of successful entertainment. 13 years of rock, hip-hop and funk. Tomorrow the 14th Free&Easy Festival in the Backstage Club is going to start a new round of good music. Bands like Blow, Broilers, Lost Patrol Band, Cosmic Casino, Timid Tiger, Starter, Kevin Devine, Kinderzimmer Productions, Missent to Denmark, Woidboyz & Atomic are performing for free until 9th of September. Different styles, different countries. My favorite group is Kinderzimmer Productions. However they perform September 3rd, when I won't be around. So go there, listen & rock to the music and tell me how it was!

you want to do some sightseeing in and around Munich but without being caught in bunch of million other tourists? Well, then check the Weisser Stadtvogel - tours. Oktoberfest 22/09 - 07/10/2007

Well, another year has passed and soon the biggest festival south of the so called "Weisswurst-Äquator" (sausage-equator) will take place.
The famous OKTOBERFEST. Some statistics of the last year: > 6.5 Mio visitors, 6.8 Mio liters of beer, 500k grilled chicken, 145k grilled sausages, > 100 oxen eaten... So are you ready for the challenge?

On Saturday, September 22nd, the official opening ceremonies will take place at noon in the Schottenhammel tent. The lord mayor of Munich will tao the first barrel of Oktoberfest beer. After this keg will be opened all visitors will be allowed to have their beer. May the river of beer run wild...

If you want to celebrate inside a tent you should arrive rather early. Without a reservation even at 9am during the weekends, since it soon will be crowded. Opening hours (a.k.a. beer serving hours) will be from 10am to 10:30pm (weekdays) and from 9am to 10:30 (sat/sun/holidays). Tents will close at 11:30. Exceptions will be the "Käfer" tent and the "Weinzelt" (wine) which will be open until 1am (last call for alcohol at 12.15am).

Nature in Munich: Isar / Flaucher

Munich is a very "green" city. That's why a lot of people love it. The work-life balance is simply perfect, since you have so many opportunities to enjoy the peace of nature in the middle of the city! One beautiful place is definitely the Isar and especially the part of the river called "Flaucher". When you follow the river upstream you will reach this park after approximately 1km from the city centre. It's a part of the river which is very original, meaning the landscape looks wild there and it seems as there are a lot of small islands in the middle of the river. There are as well a lot of little bridges connecting the different parts of the river. On the little islands you can enjoy sunsets as shown in the picture on the left. Having a BBQ, celebrating with friends and even swimming is possible there. Although it is very crowded especially during the summer weekends it is definitely worth to go. Everybody will find his or her place and may relax from work.

Hey there,

long time no hear. Well, actually this is my first post in this section. I always prefer to watch movies in their original language. Do you as well? So, here we are. Some nice places in Munich where you can watch the latest (and older) movies in their original language:

Munich Cinema (English and some French / Spanish)

The theatre is a bit "old school", however a classic german movie theatre. Nevertheless the movies are mostly shown in digital format, dolby surround and whatever a modern movie watcher needs. If you register at the website you can win free tickets! I did and I won!

Tickets range from ~5 to 8€; the feature sneak previews, special movie nights and a kids program.

The theatre is located not far from central station at Nymphenburger Str. 31 - see GoogleMaps. U1, subway station Stiglmaier Platz, exit Nymphenburgerstraße.

Munich - lederhosen, beer and so much more

I know what you're thinking. Chubby, moustachioed men in worryingly tight leather shorts (lederhosen), buxom pigtailed waitresses serving beer in glasses you could take a bath in, and an unhealthy obsession with sausages. And you're absolutely right!

But Munich is so much more. The city and the surrounding area have everything you could wish for in a classic European holiday destination - high culture, great architecture, luxury hotels, excellent restaurants, superb shopping, fairytale castles, spectacular scenery and a safe, family friendly atmosphere wherever you go.

And of course, if it really is just the beer, the shorts and well-endowed waitresses you're interested in, there's always Oktoberfest, the world's biggest beer festival which, confusingly, actually starts in the middle of September!

I'll be trying to cover as many aspects of what the city has to offer as I can, from the obvious to the utterly obscure. I hope you find it useful!
