Studio Galande.

Itching to do the time warp again? Then take a step to the left, another step to the right, and head over to Studio Galande in the fifth arrodissement. Galeries Lafayette.

Galeries Lafayette.

This luxe department store goes above and beyond to give customers the royal treatment from the moment they walk in. Translators, guest lounges - Japanese tourists get their own - a deluxe grocery and even private weekly fashion shows make clear that this is no ordinary mall. But by far my most favorite luxury is the domed ceiling, a resplendant ...

Sunday of Free Entry

As usual, every first sunday of each month, you get free entry to the main museums of Paris; The Louvre, Centre Pompidou, and Musee d'Orsay.

This month I took the opportunity to go to Musee d'Orsay after at least 6 months from the last time I went there. This place used to be a train station until it was turned into what it is today. The place ...

Behind the Louvre

dsc02855.JPG

Much as I adore the Louvre and the arts in it, I sometimes get tired of the number of people there, queueing, taking photos, walking, etc, etc. Especially in a busy city like Paris, there are times where you want peace but really can't find a place without a throng of other people.

I happened to realise not so long ago how peaceful the courtyard ...

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac

On Thursday after the final presentation, our dean madame Walker brought us to the Musee Galliera for Jean-Charles de Castelbajac's exhibition.

Though not a real fan of this French Marquis/designer, I adore his creativity and imagination and his absorbtion of arts. Many of his works are heavily influenced by Andy Warhol - also not my favourite artist to be honest.

Nevertheless, it was a marvellous experience of strong ...

Hotel de Ville

paris_hotel_de_ville_bw.jpg

Since 1357, the city of Paris' adminitration has been located on the same place where the Hotel de Ville, city hall, stands today. The square in front of the Hotel de Ville building was a huge gathering place for public executions. Although there are still many ceremonies executed there for the public these days, only the traffic is deadly.

Sometimes, in the summer, if you ...

Mariage Freres

dsc01741_resize.JPG

For everyone who has seen Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, I hope that you still remember the blooming jasmin tea she was serving her brother the Emperor of Austria. She says that it is from China- it really is- only it is now available for us non-royals at one of my favourite tea salons Mariage Freres.
Usually when I go there to be arch ...

Monoprix

Monoprix.

A stroll through the supermarkets of one's host country is one of the great pleasures of traveling abroad. The shelves and displays of produce, meats, snacks and other products give a sound introduction to the tastes and delicacies of a culture while providing a host of opportunities to marvel at exotic local foods. At Monoprix, a wonderous one-stop shop that sells cosmetics, ...

La Grande Mosquee

 dsc00743.JPG

Paris is a cosmopolitan city. Despite the uniformed style buildings of the Haussmannien Era, you may also find other great architectural designs from all over the world, from a sino-japanese pagoda to a muslim mosque.

La Grande Mosquee is one of the greatest examples. Built in the mid 20's to thank the Muslims people who helped fight with the Germans in the World War I.  Most ...
