YSL Dead at 71

The fashion world mourns the death of fashion icon Yves St. Laurent. At 71 years, YSL contributed more to fashion than any other designer. His designs had graced the runways around the world for decades. His greatest contribution to fashion was pants for women-allowing woman to enjoy the comfort of pants while still being a woman.
He will be deeply missed.

Gerald Mulot

Paris without a doubt is the best city in the world for pastries. A visit to the city of lights and delectable desserts would not be complete without sampling all there is to enjoy. One could spend the day, wandering through the city sampling one type of dessert and still find the journey incomplete the following morning.
One of my favoritie pastry shops is Gerald Mulot. The ...

Happy Mother's Day: Fete de la Mere

Today is Mother's Day in France. I am not sure where there tradition originated from. Some say it is rumored that it came from Napoleon, but it is not confirmed. I am sure all the French mothers today are enjoying a lovely stroll through a park enjoying their favourite pastry.

American dollars being accepted in Paris

Given the high cost of purchasing a euro for Americans and the lack of travel and spending by American, Paris merchants are giving Americans the option of spending American dollars in their shops.  The exchange rate is still being calculated when U.S. dollars are used so I am not sure what the advantage is except you do not have to convert your money.  However the mighty Franklin is being ...

A Year in the Merde

Stephen Clarke writes a funny book about a Brit spending a year in Paris and learning all the intricies of being French.  The book will keep you laughing as you go to work with the author and try to navigate the proper way to be French.  Clake pokes fun at the French stereotypes-where else can you get away with kissing and hugging every beautiful women in the workforce and it ...

Shakespeare and Company

Shakespeare and Company is a bookaphiles dream come true.  Thousands of books, old and new and crammed into book shelves.  The store was opened in 1951 by an American, George Whitman, who found himself in Paris after World War 2.  Not wanting to return home he studied at the Sorbonne.  After amassing a  collection of English books he opened the store.

The store is a cozy chaotic mess of books.  Everywhere you ...

For all the chocolate lovers here is a fun contest I found on the internet.  Visit www.chocolateandcroissants.blogspot.com.  Culinate is sponsoring a chocolate contest.  Entrants have the chance of winning a trip for two to Napa's Chocolate Festival.  Being the month of love and chocolate that sounds delicious.

How many jars of Nutella are there in France?

How many jars of Nutella do you think there are in France?  Many would be my answer-but how many who knows.  As I wrote earlier every crepe stand has jars of Nutella on standby to make delicious crepes.

Do your part and help celebrate World Nutella Day by eating some Nutella.

World Nutella Day is in its second year of delightful celebrations.  Thought of by three women in Italy Bleeding Espresso and ...

I bet that you never knew that such a day existed.  Ahh the beauty of Nutella to have a day named after it.  The tradition started last year by three young ladies.  Sara from Ms. Adventures in Italy and Michelle from Bleeding Espresso (and Shelley from At Home in Rome, in ...

Pantruche Carnaval and the Saint-Fargeau

Are you ready to come out and walk from the 20th district to the City Hall in the 4th district, led by a cow limousine, trumpeters and many eclectic musians?  Started in 1274 this parade also known as Promenade de Bouef Grande (procession of the fatty cow) will be making lots of noise as it marches through the streets of Paris.  Where else can you do the walk of the fatty ...
