Parisians disrupt the Olympic Torch
You have got to love the French, not only do they have the best baguettes and croissants but they are passionate about their causes. The running of the Olympic Torch thru the streets of Paris proved no exception.
There has been alot of controversy about the Olympics being hosted by China. And rightfully so. The Chinese do not seem to have any respect for human rights. The past few weeks have seen turmoil, destruction and death in Tibet. It was really not that long ago when images of tanks in Tiananman Square flashed across our television sets. But China is posed to be a strong economic force in the world and everyone wants to get a share of the mighty yen. As such China was selected to host the summer Olympics.
While world leaders may stand still and remain mum about the recent events in Tibets, common citizens around the world are letting their sentiments be known. The Parisians are no exception. The Olympic Torch rally in Paris commenced at the iconic Eiffel Tower, however the torch did not take more than a few steps before demonstrators interrupted it and attempted to dim the flame.
Kudos to the Parisians. China should never have been selected to host the Olympics. While it would be a shame for any Olympian to have their oppurtunity be passed by if countries chose to boycott the Olympics, the world should not stand still as the Chinese government tramples the rights of Tibetans.
