E. Dehillerin
I cannot say that I was ever a huge Julia Childs fan. There was no reason for not being a fan, but nothing about her ever inspired me. Then one day I was at the library and saw her book, My Life in France. It was about cooking and France so what else needed to be said.
I was hooked from page 1, her husband is transfered to Paris and because she has nothing better to do she takes cooking classes at Cordon Bleu. We all know what happened from there. That would be my life come true. Living in France and taking cooking classes at Cordon Bleu.
Julia spent many an afternoon at Dehillerin shopping for her cooking accessories and persuing the aisles. If it was good enough for Julia it would be good enough for me. One afternoon I set off for E. Dehillerin. Let me tell you this is not Williams and Sonoma or Sur La Table. This store is for the professional chef in search of their needs.
The store is two stories. Entering at ground level it seems more like a hardware store than a cooking store. There is aisle upon aisle of pots and pans, bowls and every other accessory you could imagine or think you need.
If I had a steamer I would have purchased copper bottom pots, heavy ceramic pans and every baking utensil possible. But given all I had was a valise I settled for fleur de lys skewers. A great reminder of Paris and E. Dehillerin.
They are located in the 1st district at 18 rue 18 et 20, rue Coquillière.
Bon Appetite.
