Serge Lutens Perfume
The first time my nose received a wiff of Serge Lutens perfume was in a bistro in the Marais. My husband was ski racing in the Italian Alps and I was spending a few days in Paris. Makes sense. I had stopped for lunch in the Marais and was seated at the bar next to a fashionably dressed older French woman. Fashionably dressed French woman is probably redundant. Is there any other kind?
Every time I am in Paris, it seems that I smell a perfume I enjoy. Bonjour, I said to her. Your perfume smells lovely, I do not believe I am familiar with it. It is Serge Lutens, she proudly told me. She even told me where I could go purchase it.
I never ended up buying it. It was Sunday and all the stores were closed. I was headed to Italy next so I was not concerned. We all know how that story goes. I saw it in Italy and then thought, oh I will purchase it once I return to North America. Why drag some perfume across the continent and back across the Atlantic?
Last summer we returned to Paris. Sure I went to Gallerie Layfayette and bought my Serge Lutens. I truly enjoy it. He has about twenty different scents. Every time I wear it, I am reminded of the fashionably dressed woman in the Marais.
Whoever you are thank you for the memory.
