Le Baron Bouge- Get a move on!
As you walk down rue Théophile-Roussel on your way to Le Baron Bouge you may find yourself double checking the street signs to make sure you haven't accidently taken a wrong turn and ended up in Espagne. Fear not, the people spilling spanish-style into the street with wine glasses in hand are actually enjoying a very parisian bar with very french wine. Still, this sort of street party feeling does add to the ambiance which is matched by the nearly two dozen wines the bar has at the ready for you to taste. The menu offers almost an embarrasement of riches, and at tempting prices as well- wine by the glass ranges from 2-3 euro. One could easily get overambitous and try to compare the nuances of ever red, white, and rosé on the menu. If you do attempt this feat, I suggest you accompagny your wine tasting with a cheese plate- offered for 5euro each cheese or three for 13euro. For meat lovers there are also plates of charcuterie and paté.
Be ready to bustle your way to the bar at le Baron Bouge, this spot is definately not a hidden secret and is frequented by frenchies and foreigners alike. The wine is worth the wait, however, and the clientele proves to be friendly, making room at shared tables for newcomers and allowing fellow wine lovers to sling coats over the vespas they left on the sidewalk.
Le Baron Bouge is a great spot to get a taste of wine and wine appreciation, which is what brings people from near and far to this address. Off the beaten track, the bar is a nice detour from a central city packed itinerary.
