Changes on the Champs Elysees

The most famous avenue in the world - the Champs Elysees is changing fast.  Over the past few year the number of cafes have slowly started to decline.  Why?  This is part of the charm and excitement of this beautiful tree-lined avenue.  Strolling along and finding the perfect cafe terrace to sip your drink, taking in all the charm and elegance  just as Parisians have done for decades.

Another closed a few weeks ago, the Cafe de Paris which has been around for many, many years.  Several years ago it changed hands and it went from an old-fashioned institution with great coffee to a more modern place - complete with dark velvet, chic patrons and a DJ.  Evidently, the new owners could not resist the chance to sell out to the Omega watch company which will soon have a store on the site.

I hear from those in the know that the powers that be have gotten the idea to change the look and feel of the Champs Elysees - changing all the cafes into a fashion place.  I like shopping as much as the next girl but to my way of thinking Paris already has shops everywhere you look.

I'm not sure this is a good idea, tourists and Parisian alike love to go to the Champs and enjoy the scenery, there's no other place in the world quite like it.  We'l have to wait and see what happens.  In the meantime, hit the Champs Elysees and plant yourself in a cafe and watch all of Paris go by with a toast -  here's to the good old days....
