A taste of Japan in the heart of Paris
The Japanese love Paris and Paris loves the Japanese. The area in which you will find the most typical -hence best- Japanese restaurants is that of the Opera house.
Not only is this area a touristy attraction, it is also a place where the Parisians like to hang out, shop and eat. Indeed there are many things to do and see:
L'Opéra Garnier, a master-piece of architecture, recently renovated, this monument is breath-taking. It is also the area of movie theatres.
La place Vendôme, famous for its jewellers and the Ritz palace.
L'Académie Française, the theatre where Molière's plays are performed.
Le Palais Royal and its garden, cafés and restaurants.
La Bourse, the stock exchange market, an amazing building.
It is also where the Japanese community of Paris has settled down. If you walk down the rue Sainte Anne, you will find the best restaurants in the city.
Here are a few addresses, I highly advise you to make a reservation for these places are most of the time very crowded:
- Higuma, 32 bis rue Sainte Anne 75001 Paris tel : 01 47 03 38 59
Métro : Quatre Septembre (line 3)
They serve delicious gyozas. It is quite cheap and the quality of the products is pretty good.
- Yakiniku, 11 bis rue Sainte Anne 75001 Paris tel : 01 42 96 27 60
Métro : Pyramides (line 7) or Opéra (line 3, 7, 8, RER A)
There you will not eat any sushi but the specialty is the Japanese BBQ ! You grill your own meat on hot plates. Kind of expensive but it is so good!
- Yasube : 9 rue Sainte Anne 75001 Paris tel : 01 47 03 96 37
Métro : Pyramides (line 7) or Opéra (line 3, 7, 8, RER A)
This small restaurant offers traditional sushis, sahimis and yakitoris. I recommend the Tempura which is excellent. You can also eat on tatamis (no shoes allowed, so make sure your socks don't have holes !) on the basement floor of that cute place.
- Sapporo Ramen : 37 rue Sainte Anne 75002 Paris tel : 01 42 60 60 98

You suddenly feel you are lost in translation! The menus are written in Japanese (don't worry, they are translated), most of the customers are Japanese (which is a good sign), and they serve good noodles (ramen)! And you can eat for cheap!!!!
