Breakfast in America- The Best Part of Waking Up
After a year of living in Paris I finally broke down and went into a Starbucks for a Frappucino on a hot summer’s day. Sipping my Venti frosted beverage in the searing August sun I realized that it wasn’t necessary to eschew my American ways in order to integrate into a Parisian lifestyle. It is in the spirit that I recommend Breakfast in America (two locations: 17 rue des Ecoles m° Cardinal LeMoine or Jussieu and 4 rue Malher m° St. Paul) a place where Americans, or those habituated to their cuisine, can take pleasure in the creature comforts that they have left behind. You may be actively immersing yourself in a different culture, but who says that prevents the rare craving for a milkshake or a bagel with cream cheese? At Breakfast in America, weary travelers and ex-pats alike will find an authentic diner setting complete with American staff and a menu that is appetizingly legible after feuding with foie gras and other French fare. Ask and ye shall receive in this ‘merican Mecca that offers everything from Burgers with Ranch Sauce to Caesar Salad (plates between 8-10 euro). Service can be slow and confused at times, but once the food hits your table this quickly ceases to be a problem. The most homesick of patrons will find joy in the “jus des chausettes” (sock juice)- bottomless cups of North America’s famous and well-loved brown water coffee served in- even more exciting- real coffee mugs! A must for those who need respite from the tiring tourist itinerary.
Breakfast in America is open 7 days a week 8:30 to 11 pm, with a Sunday brunch served exclusively until 4:00 pm.
