Notting Hill has also been known as the quirky and trendy area of town with all the right people to be seen with and places to be seen in, but, it is also home to two little cinematic gems. They are part of a small collection of old theatre-style cinema's dotted around the world.

The Gate's building dates back to 1861, although did not become a cinema until 1909 and has changed hands many times since. If the history won't entice you to see this cute little cinema, this might...It has a little bar at the entrance where you can order some pre-show drinks, and if you haven't finished them in time they provide small tables attached to the extra large seats so you can take your drinks into the auditorium with you.  With regular showings of Hollywood films as well as Independent films, its definitely worth a visit.

The Coronet was opened as a Victorian theatre in 1898 and soon became known as one of the finest in the West End. The most significant feature of this cinema apart from it's stunning exterior and interior, is that up until 3 years ago you used to be able to smoke in this cinema a novelty that was very short lived but a novelty nonetheless.
