Best view in London - some nice pictures - and a cup of tea thrown in!
Spent the afternoon in the cafe on the top floor of the National Portrait Gallery (not to be confused with the National Gallery - it is next door, literally round the corner at the bottom of the Charing X Road). Sat over a cup of tea watching the grey skies over Trafalgar Square. All the lights ofLondon lie far below - well not all of them but manyof the important ones. You can see the Millenium wheel, the Houses of Parliament, Admiralty Arch, Nelson's Column. The service is slow which is great. No one moves you on. Sit in the window and photograph and gawk to your heart's content. Much less effort than traipsing round in the rain. Then, suitably refreshed, there are all kinds of portraits in the gallery downstairs. And I mean all kinds. A series of larger than life size photos of Kate Moss (showing her every line and wrinkle - yes, go and find out just how retouched most of the pix you ever see of her or anyone else are) were fascinating. The 16 black and white photos - none of them conventionally attractive - really make you think about what a photo is.... Great for a rainy day
