Sign, Sign Everywhere a Sign

I Like Dreamin

Do you believe in signs? I stumbled across a listing of the destinations Danes will be flocking to this winter on vacation, according to local travel agencies. Of course, many Danes will still be travelling wilburys despite the recession.

First choice for these adventurers, are the Canary Islands, 2nd is Egypt and 3rd is Thailand. The Canary Islands are a short distance ...

Who'd Believe it Anyhow?

Throughout my life I've had my fair share of run-ins with average Joes, almost famous people, wannabes and full blown celebrities. Some of the experiences were good, some bad and some downright ugly. Don't worry this little story includes none of the latter, so no need to call your lawyer.

Let's go back 10 years ago - boy time flies. I was celebrating a milestone birthday, so a gal pal and ...

Gone Fishin'

Help Me.........

Aww, the good old summertime! I can fondly remember as a child, living on the waterfront on Lake Ontario, inspired my friends and I to swim every single day. Yes, we swam until our little hands were as wrinkled as an old lady's. Swimming was pretty satisfying for awhile, until I noticed that myriads of tourists fishing looked like they ...

Jack be "Nimb" Xmas Lunch

On Friday I will be attending a traditional Scandinavian julefrokost (Christmas lunch) in Copenhagen, put on by the Swedish company I work for from time to time when I'm not working with the kids. I guess you could call me a jack of all trades, master of some.

Anyhow, I am really looking forward to this little get together, as it seems it's been all work and no play as of late. ...

Fast Food Fetish in Copenhagen

I just read an interview over at aok.dk conducted with an American residing in Copenhagen. He talked about what he liked and didn't like about Copenhagen. I thought it was a rather interesting perspective as it sometimes takes an outsider to appreciate what we have and what we may be lacking.

He mentioned that he loved the bicycle culture in Copenhagen but missed the diversity of New York City. I'm guessing that he ...

Taste of Copenhagen

The annual Waupoos Fish Fry went off without a hitch at the Rose House Museum. The museum was built in the 1800's and was inhabited by some of the first settlers in the area, the Rose family. I used to work there as a summer student what seems like a lifetime ago so I enjoyed supporting the event and touring the museum again.

Also, my dad and aunt were the dinner entertainment ...

Dine like a Dane

People sometimes ask me where they can dine in Denmark to experience a truly traditional Danish meal. My answer is usually McDonalds or Pizza Hut. Oh, that was just a joke of course but maybe not so much. There was a survey conducted here about a year ago where they asked school aged children what an authentic Danish meal consisted of. The most popular answer ended up being "pizza." I ...

Belly Dancing at Ankara

The other night I attended a little party in Copenhagen with some co-workers. It was a little awkward for reasons I will not get into here but we all made the best of it. I'll just put it this way, I've decided that if one is not driving his or her own vehicle and just cruising along as a passenger, then one can't be shocked or disappointed by unforeseen events, ...

Nowhere like Nomas

I just read that chartered trip bookings for Danes travelling elsewhere this summer are up 30% compared to the same time period in 2007. People here, sure love to travel. Since I won't be able to travel much myself this summer we are looking to get away in May. That's if my passport is signed, sealed and delivered here on time. Oh, I won't go into that as it gives me ...

Valentine's Day in Copenhagen

There have been strange happenings around these parts. I worked this morning and wanted to mail something quickly as soon as I was finished only to find that the post-box, that has been located just around the corner for years, is no more. I guess that means a twenty minute walk to the Post Office downtown but not today.

February is not the most cheery month of the year; I think ...
