Where Have the Manners Gone?

What an exciting week it was. Fun times are all around if you open yourself up to them, and I have decided to make this summer vacationing in Ontario fun, by heading out on a series of mini-excursions, to here, there and everywhere. Last week, I started this little adventure streak by taking the train up to Toronto to watch the Toronto Blue Jays play baseball against the California Angels. They didn't ...

The Ford Ranger Rocks

If you see this baby on the road head for the ditch! If I didn't mention it earlier, I'm back in Ontario for awhile for a variety of reasons, but mostly because my father is very ill. He can't drive or anything so he's given me command and control of his precious truck. I am honestly not a good driver at ...

Fight the Good Fight

Life comes in waves, full of ups, downs, twists and turns. As I mentioned once before, I borrowed that saying from someone else's blog. Oh well, I guess "jeg stjæler med arme og ben," which converted from Danish over to English means "I steal with arms and legs."

Now, it looks like our family is experiencing some major tidal waves. It all had been pretty much a bed of roses until ...

Viggo Mortensen Live

Half Danish Viggo MortensenOne of my favourite actors, Danish/American Viggo Mortensen of "Lord of the Rings," fame is in town. Remember him? Of course you do because he played the reluctant hero Aragorn in the world famous trilogy.

Anyhow, he's in Denmark for his birthday and it's a big one but they're all big ones after the age of 25. The good news ...

The Killing gets Emmy Nod Again!

Wow, I just read some great news. The Danish criminal drama series "forbrydelsen," or its official English title "The Killing" has been nominated for not one, but two Emmy awards this coming November.

Last year this fascinating series was nominated for best international drama series but unfortunately didn't take home the prize. I guess it's "an honour just to be nominated," or some trite like that (just kidding). Anyhow, fate has ...

Majestic Willow Tree in WaupoosWillow Tree Towers over House

The picture above is of a willow tree that my grandfather planted out in front of my parent's house in Waupoos, Ontario over sixty years ago. It seemed to be quite the attraction this summer as curious tourists drove by, slowed down, backed up and took ...

Are We on the Best Tourist List?

It looks like I'll be heading back to Prince Edward County, Ontario to visit my family. In fact, it is confirmed I'm leaving next week. I have plenty of time for vacations this summer as some colleagues and myself were given an unexpected, extended vacation. In other words we were let go until further notice.

So, I've decided to turn lemons into lemonade, make the best of it and head home. This ...

Help for Myanmar?

As I mentioned many times before, we visited Phuket, Thailand a few weeks ago. On the way there, the flight was re-routed because of a tropical cyclone in our path. That was on Tuesday the 29th of April. On the immediate Friday after, that being the 3rd of May we received word that a devastating cyclone had hit the nearby country of Myanmar (Burma), approximately 280 km north of us, ...

"Specifically" Seaside Thailand

Kata BeachWe have just booked our trip to Thailand. We are heading to Phuket again, but this time to picturesque Kata Beach not Karon Beach like last year. No specific reason, we just want to try something new. It got me reminiscing about the different trips we have booked over the years. Most of them ...
