You Stole My Story

2004_secret_window_034.jpgTo those people - if there are any remaining - who are avid readers of this blog, I must apologize for "going blogging AWOL." I won't abuse the word "sorry" because I think people use that word way too loosely these days. Anyhow, as for those people following along with this journal, I hope to meet you, one and all, one day as it's "always a pleasure to meet a reader." (That's a line from my favourite movie nowadays, "Secret Window." Stay tuned for more on that later....).

Actually, some days I think that I just won't do this blogging anymore, but gosh darn it I feel the need. It's therapeutic; you ought to try it. That, combined with the fact that I've watched the movie "Secret Window," about a million times probably gives one a scary insight into my mental health, these days. It's no secret that I've always been hopelessly in love with Johnny Depp, but bizarre that is not because what woman isn't?

Despite that fact however, we often watch particular films over and over again, when we identify with one of the characters. At this juncture in my life, I unfortunately identify myself in some ways, as a milder version of Johnny Depp's character "Mort." If you watch the movie, which is based on a Stephen King novel, you'll realize that this confession is a bit disturbing.

In the film, Mort Rainey plays a writer just coming off of a troublesome divorce with his ex-wife, and finds himself stalked at his remote lakeside cabin by a psychotic stranger. The stranger, who calls himself "Shooter," is played brilliantly by John Turturro. Shooter's grievance is his claim that Mort plagiarised his story.

He confronts Mort and delivers such memorable lines as, "I hooked you to those two men in more ways than you know. You gonna find yourself standin' with your head in the noose and your feet in Crisco." My personal favourite is, "I suppose that's why I came all the way up here from Mississippi (pronounced Mizzizippi). How in the heck did a big money scribbling arsehole like you get down to a little shilt splat town in Mississippi and steal my story?" (I gave you the g-rated version). Another memorable part is when Johnny explains to Shooter about his marriage situation in his best southern drawl.

"What do you think it means you ignorant hick, I'm in the middle of a divorce....D.I.V.O.R.C.E..."

Anyhow, I've decided to put this movie watching - especially that one - to an abrupt END, and to immerse myself wholeheartedly into something positive, that being the local theatre. If you're in Copenhagen tonight, and would like to take in some theatre, you might want to see Nørrebro Theatres popular ‘Late Night Evenings' a.k.a (Late Night-aftener). It's a combination stand-up, music and other scene performances. Artists included are the girl band Sort Samvittighed, the duo Lulu Rouge, stand-up from Lasse Rimmer and dance from the Royal Ballet. When the first show started in 2007 it was sold out month after month. "Late Night" happens here:
