Copenhagen Songwriters Festival

Well, today I'll be giving you some information about an upcoming event in advance, not at the last minute as I usually do. Surprise, surprise wonders never cease. First off, I have to tell you that it's been kind of a strange day today.

I made an appointment with the hairdresser to change my hair colour, yet again. I asked her if she could start frying and dying my hair at 10:00 a.m. "Sure no problem," she said confidently. That gave me forty five minutes to walk from my temporary office away from home - my brother's place - to the salon.

On my way up to this hair appointment, I stumbled across a group of giggling, young girls hanging out in front of a lemonade stand. It was run by a couple of young boys. I'd hazard a guess and say that they were between 10 and 11 years old, respectively. They asked me if I'd like to buy a cup of lemonade.

Hey, I remember the days trying to make fast buck selling lemonade, so I didn't hesitate to give them some business. They told me it was 50 cents for a large cup of their concoction, so I went for the gusto and that's what I purchased.

They then handed me the lemonade in a large plastic cup, not a disposable one, but one they probably grabbed from their mom's cupboard. I asked the boys how business was going and they said, "Really good," while stirring the pitcher of lemonade with their hands. This led me to believe that the cup I was drinking from was probably used by many a mouth today. I worry about these boys eventually growing up and entertaining their lady friends, stirring drinks with their hands? Serving their gal pals drinks in dirty, used cups?

The whole incident inspired me to write this little song, aptly called, "Treat her like a Lady. "Some of the lyrics include, "Now, I'm the kinda guy who don't believe that chivalry is dead, no ‘cause I believe a woman should be treated with the utmost respect. " Sound familiar or perhaps you know someone who displays these seemingly antiquated qualities?

Nah, I didn't write that song as you've probably already guessed. It was written and performed by the legendary Motown band, the Temptations way back in 1985. As I said yesterday, I'm dying to see The Temptations LIVE. In fact, I'm on a personal crusade to get tickets!!

That said, if you're on the lookout for NEW musical talent, and if you're in Copenhagen why not stop in and see the Copenhagen Songwriters Festival. One hundred song writers from 8 lands and a variety of genres will play their songs over three days at Vesterbro.  It all happens here:
