Michael Jackson in Copenhagen
If you haven't already had enough Michael Jackson overload, then like it or lump it, there is more to come. I know some people are growing weary of the nonstop coverage, but not this fan. I've always loved Michael Jackson.
When I first saw the music video "Thriller," I thought, "Wow, look at that guy - the dancing, the singing, the cool clothes!" Then I purchased Thriller on cassette (now I'm really giving my age away.) I'd play that every night in my room after school, late into the night. I'd only shut it down when my brothers would scream, "Dad... Mom? Make Jen turn that off!"
Then, when I found out that Michael was brought up in the same non-conventional, somewhat restrictive religion, my fanatic mind thought, "Wow, now we've even got something in common." A group of us from the church even went to see him perform live in concert during his "Victory tour."
The group that I went with assured us that we had great seats. Well, to be honest they weren't all that. We were up in the nosebleed section and needed binoculars to see anything. One thing I have to say is that if you've ever watched Michael Jackson sing and dance on television, it was nothing, and I mean nothing compared to seeing him live. He was so energetic, thin and lithe; it was like he floated on air.
Actually, I watched a Danish program a few months back, where younger artists talked about Michael Jackson's influence on them. Then there were some people in my age group who were lucky enough to be around when the "Thriller" phenomenon hit. I distinctly remember one interviewee stating that, ‘If you weren't around then to see the magic and worldwide pandemonium that Michael Jackson evoked, then you really missed out on something special that will probably never happen again.'
I'd imagine that it was probably very similar to the Beatles, Elvis Presley phenomenon. As you know Michael Jackson revolutionalized music videos as we knew them at the time, by being the first African American to be shown on them. He also took music videos to a whole other level by integrating his innovative dance moves and songs and turning them into stories or theatrical events.
So, if you "don't want to stop ‘til you get enough" of the legend that was once Michael Jackson, why not attend a party in remembrance of him tonight, Friday July 3rd, at the nightclub "Abstract." DJ AZN will be spinning Michael Jackson tracks the entire night, as well as R & B classics and newer hits. It all happens at:
Abstrakt
