Chris Chown turns a Guitar Upside Down

Greetings all fair-weathered summer fans. The weather has been really looking up the last few days at a balmy 31 degrees here in Belleville. I'm still in Ontario but time is ticking by and it won't be long before I have to hightail it on out of here.

Just a heads up for those folks reading this blog. It has not much to do with Copenhagen this time but for those of you in southeastern Ontario looking for something to do today in the Kingston area, this just might be the ticket.

Yesterday, we went down to the Limestone Blues Festival in Kingston and saw a few acts. My dad was the one who dragged my mom and I down there as we weren't enthused about seeing it really.

It turned out to be an interesting day as my mom and I ended up talking to a former Toronto Maple Leaf captain's mother. I won't name names but she is a very nice woman and told my mom lots of fascinating stories and my mom doesn't even like hockey.

She mentioned the time her son's dog chased a female cyclist down the street. He yelled what sounded like "Kill her" to the dog and the poor cyclist thought this well known hockey guy was sicking the dog on her. What he was actually doing was calling the dog back by using its name which was"Killer," hmm..bit of a misunderstanding there.

So anyhow, while we were chit chatting to her this musician/singer/songwriter by the name of Chris Chown hit the stage and he was so awesome. He's from London, Ontario and has been playing the club and festival circuit for over 12 years. He played his white Fender Stratocaster from behind his head. I couldn't believe it.

My dad who knows a bit about the techniques of guitar playing said he was fantastic and couldn't stop talking about him. I just thought he was a good singer and guitar player but couldn't really explain why.

This guys influences among others are Jimmy Hendrix and Buddy Guy. He's playing at the Holiday Inn on Princess Street in Kingston this evening according to some fellas I was talking to. I was so impressed I just ordered his debut CD "Fantastic Life" for my dad and I very rarely order CD's.. You can check him out here.
