Dine like a Dane

People sometimes ask me where they can dine in Denmark to experience a truly traditional Danish meal. My answer is usually McDonalds or Pizza Hut. Oh, that was just a joke of course but maybe not so much. There was a survey conducted here about a year ago where they asked school aged children what an authentic Danish meal consisted of. The most popular answer ended up being "pizza." I guess the fast paced, fast food lifestyle has taken over the world, including here.

If you would like to experience truly traditional, Danish food why not give the restaurant "Oddplace" a try. This restaurant even goes the extra mile by serving a delectable lunch on plates which are of Danish design.

Cathedral ceilings and an elegant atmosphere characterize the interior. There is also outdoor dining available for those who wish to take advantage of the lovely summer weather we are experiencing nowadays.

Average cost for three pieces of "smørrebrød" which is typically Danish is about 150 Dkr. I can attest to the fact that this traditional meal is alive and kicking. This popular Danish delicacy can best be described as an open sandwich on buttered rye bread topped with roast beef or cold cuts, raw onions and/or dried onions and other toppings like remoulade - which is a bit like tartar sauce.
