Soul Searching with Solomon Burke

"You've got a minute to rest, a second to pray," wise words indeed... Oh, excuse moi but I was just singing my new favourite song. As I mentioned before, Roskilde Festival is coming up soon, July 3rd to 6thto be exact. So, I thought I'd mosie on over to the festival's website and check out some more of the talented performers who will be blessing us with their presence.

I came across Philadelphia's own pride and joy Mr. Solomon Burke and started reading a bit about him. A deeply religious man, Bishop Solomon Burke started out preaching at the tender age of 12 in his family's church. Apparently, he delivered the eulogy at the late, great Ike Turner's funeral.

He has won a Grammy award and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His biggest hit to date was "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love." Now, at the ripe young age of 68, the larger than life Mr. Burke, more commonly known as the "King of Rock and Soul," has a brand spanking new album coming out called "Like a Fire." It's available for purchase on June 10th, which I believe is tomorrow!

Reportedly, it includes deeply personal songs about Solomon's reflection on life and concerns about the condition of the world today. An emotionally raw album is what some reviewers are calling it. This album features songs written by the legendary Eric Clapton, Ben Harper and others.

All I know is that man can belt out those tunes. I hadn't really listened to his music before. I just wandered on over to his site and fell in love with his song "A Minute to Rest and a Second to Pray," which is featured on the new album. Religious, straddling the fence or not religious at all, there's no denying that is a catchy tune.
