Where Art Thou Neil?

Psst...I mentioned this in an earlier blog but nonetheless it's worth mentioning again. Just a reminder that the legendary musician/songwriter/social activist/jack of all trades, master of all, Mr. Neil Young is performing in Copenhagen tonight. He is here with his wife, his handy dandy guitar, his band and his repertoire of classic songs and perhaps a few new diddys. It all started last night, but he hits the stage again tonight at ...

Oscar Aftermath

Well, it looks like Team Denmark didn't take home any awards last night at the Academy Awards Show. I fell asleep before it all ended. I only watched it up until they announced best short film. When Christian's name wasn't announced for "At Night," also known as "Om Natten," I proceeded to throw bricks through the television screen and so the likelihood of watching the rest of the show was ...

Awards Shows Smorgasbord

Yesterday came and went and I missed the Danish Music Awards. I fell asleep at 7:00 p.m. yesterday if you can believe that and woke up at 6:00 a.m. today. I had this wild dream. I was surrounded by piles of books and mounds of papers. I couldn't figure out how to use my mobile phone and I had to access the Internet but it wouldn't work. I was supposed ...

Siemens Spin Cycle

Warning, today's blog has not much to do with Copenhagen, yet again. Although, it is looking out to be an exciting weekend here, with the Danish Music Awards and the Oscars all being televised in the same weekend. I'll be more on-topic next time and perhaps even comment on the fires and clashes that have been consuming the country. Today, however I'd rather stick to a light subject that doesn't ...

Passport Predicament

Good day to everyone or anyone reading this blog. I haven't blogged in a few days and I can't blame hacked, uncooperative e-mail accounts this time. I just haven't blogged, that's my story and I am sticking to it.

I have to renew my passport, really looking forward to it, oh joy oh bliss...not! I still have my Canadian passport and last time I renewed it, it was such a headache. I'd ...

Bridget Jones, DMA's & Other Stuff

Sorry, I haven't been blogging but something is messed up with my yahoo e-mail account which allows me access to this blog. I have nothing better to do than spend an hour everyday trying to log into e-mail accounts that are either hacked or simply do not work. That said, I am no longer using yahoo mail as I've had nothing but problems with them, so anyone who is trying to ...

Valentine's Day in Copenhagen

There have been strange happenings around these parts. I worked this morning and wanted to mail something quickly as soon as I was finished only to find that the post-box, that has been located just around the corner for years, is no more. I guess that means a twenty minute walk to the Post Office downtown but not today.

February is not the most cheery month of the year; I think ...

Copenhagen Fashion Weekend

Before it is over, I thought I'd post something about Copenhagen Fashion Weekend, yes "weekend" not "week." It started today the 6th of February and runs until the 10th of February which will be Sunday.

Visit the Magasin Design Lab in the City Square in Copenhagen. 300 free tickets are being given away starting today in Magasin's Fashion Week Lounge so it's first come, first serve, all for one and one for all.

Don't ...

Strange People

If you are in Copenhagen this weekend and wondering if it is actually Halloween here, don’t be confused. In Denmark we hold a celebration similar to Halloween called “Fastelavn.” So, if you see princesses, Batman, Superman or otherwise strange looking folks in these parts, don’t worry you’re not losing it.

Fastelavn is an annual tradition here that started in the 1500’s as a fun and games night for the young and ...

Copenhagen’s Youth Centre Resurrected

About a year ago, around this time, the infamous ”Ungdomshus” on Jagtvej 69 in Copenhagen was demolished. To make a long story short, the “Ungdomshus” or “Youth Centre” as it’s known, was a haven for outcasts, lost souls and creative sorts looking for a place to hang their hat.

They lived for many years in a house owned by the City of Copenhagen, virtually rule and rent free. The idea that ...
